Position: Food Program Manager

Location: Brooklyn, NY

Employment Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week)

Compensation: $65,000–$75,000 per year

Position Summary:

The Food Program Manager will oversee all operations at a Brooklyn-based food pantry. This includes purchasing, stocking, inventory management, and supervision of volunteers. The role involves using a digital system to manage client food orders and fostering community partnerships to support ongoing food distribution efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily operations of the kosher food pantry.
  • Oversee ordering, inventory, and packing of emergency food packages.
  • Ensure efficient, organized, and culturally appropriate food distribution.
  • Maintain relationships with food distributors and suppliers for cost-effective purchasing.
  • Cultivate partnerships with volunteers, donors, and community groups.
  • Represent the pantry at events and in donor meetings.
  • Build referral relationships with community institutions and nonprofits.
  • Develop volunteer recruitment strategies.
  • Supervise and support pantry volunteers.
  • Track and report all pantry activity and client statistics.
  • Attend team meetings, trainings, and other organizational activities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in food pantry operations, warehouse management, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of Kashrut laws is required.
  • English fluency required; Yiddish understanding preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Boro Park community strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer systems.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent walking, sitting, bending, and stooping.
  • Regular lifting of 5–25 lbs, pushing/pulling, and climbing stairs.
  • Carrying a laptop and files (approx. 8–10 lbs).
