Job Description

Summary:

We're one of the most storied brands in consumer books, and we're innovating every day to market and promote emerging authors to a large audience.  As we push increasingly into collaborations and activations, we are looking for an outcomes-oriented and culturally savvy Director of Brand Activation & PR to help us build our up-funnel marketing efforts with flair. The successful candidate will be able to develop and lead the execution of collaborations and events, as well as build an effective PR and communications function.  This role will begin as an individual contributor so we are looking for someone who is hands-on. This is a high-profile role that will report to either the Executive Chairman or CEO.

What you’ll do:

Partnerships & Collaborations

  • Participate and lead discussions with potential partners to conceptualize, vet, develop and execute collaborations that deliver positive business impact.
  • Accurately understand the Company’s objectives, external parties’ objectives, and where they overlap and diverge.
  • Create compelling pitch materials and conduct relevant business analysis.
  • Project manage partnerships and coordinate with internal groups to seamlessly execute collaborations (e.g., Product, Creative, Marketing, Editorial and Member Experience).
  • Over time, demonstrate the ability to initiate successful new collaborations on your own.

Events & Activations

  • Project-manage and execute company events and activations at a high level of detail.
  • Manage vendor relationships; including vetting, negotiating and coordinating.
  • Lead “run of show execution” that delivers exceptional guest experiences.
  • Over time, conceptualize and propose new events and activations to generate meaningful business impact.
  • Support our upcoming centennial in a meaningful and high-impact way that’s aligned with our brand.

PR & Communications

  • Understand how BOTM can communicate its message and craft campaigns that do this effectively.
  • Create compelling press materials, such as pitches, media kits, profiles, and talking points for various audiences.
  • Serve as day-to-day contact for external agencies and publications.
  • Serve as host for relevant journalists and other company guests at relevant events.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for BOTM to engage in culturally relevant trends.
  • Over time, become an effective spokesperson and representative of the Company for external parties.

About you:

  • 10+ years of experience in complex events, special projects, and/or communications roles in entertainment, fashion, media, hospitality or branded consumer technology
  • Strong relationship-building skills; a strong existing professional network is a plus
  • Strong project management and communication skills (both writing and speaking)
  • Ability to use data and financial acumen to inform decision making
  • An affinity for details, hospitality, and a sense for what makes events distinctive and successful
  • Deep understanding of consumer brands relevant to gen-z and millennial audiences
  • Enjoyment of contemporary literature and familiarity with the BOTM brand is a strong plus
  • You are a social person who likes going out at night

Salary Range: We are open to hiring at a Manager, Director, or VP level for this role with a salary ranging from $80,000 to $250,000. The level and salary will be determined based on experience of each candidate.
